Sam Curran: Tonight we play a really good team, and we can spoil a few campaigns now and finish with some pride. We've had a really good squad but some of those games we didn't win the big moments.
Sanju Samson: We'll bat first in these conditions. This is a second home for us, we have spend quite a bit of time here. We spent two days to assess on whether there is dew, and there isn't any. The team, the batting and bowling unit are doing great.
Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and have opted to bat
Dhruv Jurel: Had a hamstring injury which could have worsened if I kept playing, so I took an off in the middle. Last game also I played as an impact sub so that there wouldn’t be the load of fielding. Now I'm feeling much better. Playing at 6-7 is an important role because sometimes you lose early wickets and you have to play till the end while maintaining a good SR. I’m glad I haven’t had to bat much because the team is performing well, but when I have got opportunities, I’ve tried to play till the end with a good SR. (On Jos Buttler’s absence) It will impact the team because he was in really good form, but our bench players are also good so who knows what could happen when they get a chance. (On whether he fancies opening) We’ll get done with the toss soon, y’all will find out everything then.
Arshdeep Singh: Has been a fifty-fifty season, a few good games and a few bad ones. Just trying to improve my economy rate (apart from taking wickets), trying to watch and learn from bowlers like Bumrah and others who have bowled this season. We are not able to finish it off properly, the results haven't gone our way in many close games. We have played some good cricket and have enjoyed ourselves, unfortunately we are at the bottom of the points table. Trying to enjoy the present moment. Will focus on today's game, will think about World Cup later.
Pitch Report | Deep Dasgupta and WV Raman: 13th venue of the season, the most in an IPL season. This has traditionally been a very high scoring venue, with 63m and 60m side boundaries, with the straight boundary at 73m. We are playing on a black soil pitch which is firm and rolled nicely. Surely a surface on which a lot of runs can be scored. The pitch has a few cracks but it generally plays much better than the looks. Last year, both games here were won by the side batting first. Teams prefer doing that because when you are chasing, you are under pressure, but in an India Australia game at this venue, Australia chased a huge score of 222 in the last over. Irrespective on when you bat, there are a lot of runs to be had here.
Punjab have already been eliminated and have now lost the services of Liam Livingstone and KG Rabada, both of whom have returned home with minor injuries. Sam Curran and Jonny Bairstow are expected to join that exodus, but will get a farewell opportunity in Guwahati before that. Nothing but pride to play for, PBKS can be the spoilers for other teams hoping for a lofty finish in the points table. Games between these two sides have generally produced last over thrillers, let’s hope we get one more of those…
Rajasthan picked up a de-facto pump in the points table yesterday with Lucknow’s loss confirming their place in the playoffs. The goal however would be to finish in the top two to have two bites at the cherry. They have a Jos Buttler sized hole at the top of the order, but they have been pruning another mild-mannered English keeper batsman who has been lighting it up in other franchise tournaments to come good in these later stages. The fast outfields, flat decks and flat PBKS bowling attack would be ideal testing grounds to give Tom Kohler-Cadmore a gateway into the IPL.
