Holder to Tristan Stubbs, no run, on a good length and shaping away from outside off, Stubbs has a good look, lifts his bat and lets it go
The players are coming out to the middle. Plenty of sawdust has been applied alongside the side pitches. We had heavy rainfall yesterday and the ground looked drenched.
Torrential rainfall meant only 15 overs were possible on Day 1. The drainage here is good and the outfield looks in good condition. The sun is out and the forecast is a bit more favourable - the groundstaff have done well to keep the pitch dry, the bowlers will have to be disciplined with their radar and attack the off-stump to be successful, reckons Samuel Badree and Stacy Ann-King, in their pitch report.
Only 15 overs were possible on arain-affected opening day of the Test series and it was just a short time for both to spar at each other. Tony de Zorsi sparkled during his unbeaten 32 while Jason Holder got the lone wicket to fall by cleaning up Aiden Markram for 9. The forecast for this Test ain't greater, but we do expect a lot more cricket today with rain expected to hold off today. As such, time is a premium and both teams will need to push on if they're to entertain hopes of going 1-0 ahead. 98 overs will be bowled for the rest of the Test as they look t o make up for some of the lost time yesterday.
Since play was called off early today, we will have an early start tomorrow - 30 minutes before. We will be there to bring you all the action. Hope tomorrow weather-wise we get more play. The forecast is for much better weather. On that note we take leave, we will see you tomorrow. Take care till then.
14:48 Local Time, 18:48 GMT, 00:18 IST: That's it, it's stumps. Rain has had the final say. The forecast was for rain and it has arrived to disrupt the day. In whatever play that was possible today, Markram got a good ball, till then he was looking good. de Zorzi, as soon as Motie came on took the attack to him and smashed him for two sixes. That was the highlight of the day. Just 15 overs were bowled when the heavens opened up. Lunch was taken and rain did not relent after that as well. Finally just before the scheduled tea break, the umpires decided to call it off as conditions were not fit for play.
14:12 Local Time, 18:12 GMT, 23:42 IST: It is raining heavily right now. Fair to say that we won't get any play in this session.
14:06 Local Time, 18:06 GMT, 23:36 IST: The inspection was supposed to happen at 14:00 local but it has started to rain again. So the inspection understandably is delayed.
13:42 Local Time, 17:42 GMT, 23:12 IST: Frustrating! Covers back on. That kind of a day.
13:26 Local Time, 17:26 GMT, 22:56 IST: Rain has stopped. It has gotten brighter and some covers are being removed. So some positive news.
13:06 Local Time, 17:06 GMT, 22:36 IST:Inspection at 14:00 local. Live visuals show the covers are on and gloomy skies overhead. Nothing but waiting at the moment.
12:52 Local Time, 16:52 GMT, 22:22 IST: News coming in is that the rain has stopped.
12:32 Local Time, 16:32 GMT, 22:02 IST: We have live pictures and it doesn't look great. There was further rain during the lunch break and the covcers have been saturated with water. Can spot a few more puddles across the outfield and it'll take a while to get the ground ready for play to resume.
11:55 Local Time, 15:55 GMT, 21:25 IST: The rain has stopped, but there's a lot of puddles around on the outfield. The groundstaff are using two rollers to try and absorb as much water as possible on the outfield. It was a sharp shower and it has left several damp patches on the uncovered areas. Lot of work to do for the staff, but with lunch approaching, they might have enough time to get the ground ready after the official break.
11:40 Local Time, 15:40 GMT, 21:10 IST: Nothing much to report from Port of Spain. Lunch ain't far away and we could we be looking at an early break.
11:20 Local Time, 15:20 GMT, 20:50 IST: A slight breeze is blowing, but the rain looks pretty persistent. The hiulls in the background looks hazyt as well, we could be in for a slightly longer wait
11:11 Local Time, 15:11 GMT, 20:41 IST: It has got a bit dark, rain could be around the corner and the players walk off. The groundstaff are in no real hurry at the moment, so this could be just precautionery, but it indeed looked pretty dark
