13:15 Local Time, 07:45 GMT, 13:15 IST: Some positive news coming through from Ganesh. "Loud cheers as the rain seems to have come to a stop. Looks like they are going to take the covers off and empty the puddles of water collected on top of them. The outfield covers being peeled off first" he says.
This is just the seventh instance of four (or more) of India’s top-five registering a 50-plus score in their second innings of a Test. The last was also against New Zealand - at Napier in 2009 - when they had been asked to follow-on, having conceded a 314-run first innings lead. They batted out 180 overs in their second dig (476/4) to save the game , with Gautam Gambhir, the current coach, leading the way with a 643-minute stay at the crease (137 off 436).
In the other game featuring New Zealand out of these seven - in Mohali in 1999 - India responded with 505/3d in the second innings after they had been bundled out for 83 in their first. Each of their top five went past 50, with Rahul Dravid (144) and skipper Sachin Tendulkar (126) scoring hundreds. The visitors, set a target of 374, managed to save the game with 251/7 from 135 overs.
12:56 Local Time, 07:26 GMT: "Fourth umpire out, but with that umberella still. Still drizzling as well. So we’ll wait on," updates Ganesh.
Ganesh Jogi: I am living just 5km away from Chinnaswamy. Rain got stopped. I guess we would see single hand dance soon from Rishabh
Ajit: Every time it rains in an India vs. New Zealand match, New Zealand gains the upper hand over India.
Ram: This test match probably the best of 2024 considering the weather conditions, losing a day... & A comeback like this & Team India is clearly displaying their intention is to go for a Win rather than to Draw this Test match.
12:20 Local Time, 06:50: Rain still falling
11:58 Local Time, 06:28 GMT: "It has got heavier suddenly, so we're definitely going to have a bit of a wait I guess," Ganesh updates from the ground.
Rain has stopped
11:50 Local Time, 06:20 GMT: Looks like the intensity of the rain has reduced but just good enough to keep the umbrella up
