Ryan ten Doeschate | India's assistant coach: Certainly going to be the last day of the series. Feel we've played better cricket here, Rishabh and Shubman were absolutely fantastic on a wicket which is becoming tougher and tougher. We know that the chase will be tough, but we've put ourselves up in a good position after playing two good days of cricket so far. New Zealand have been fantastic, especially coming from Sri Lanka where they seem to have struggled. They've come up with some strong game plans and have done well in the conditions. I think we can break it into three parts. Bengaluru, the toss was very crucial. Pune, there was one session that really hurt us. By and large, we want to be better in these conditions, there has been a lot of talk on overseas performances. but we've to be better than we have been in the three games so far. It's tricky because you want to give them as much trust and responsibility as you can, but you've seen things that have fared well, so it's a mixture of two things. The thing New Zealand have done well is to time the attack and defence, that's something we've taken a leaf off them in this game. You've seen that the rhythm is much better here, the pitch has changed over the last two days, you want to let them play their game (on the game plan to the players), but at the same time you need to send small pieces of information at times. Rishabh has been fantastic, his comeback has been spectacular, Gill is someone we'll rely heavily on in the future, runs from Rohit and Kohli, the batting then will be in fine shape. It's really tough, they are such quality players What I found difficult is that they are so good and so incredible in the nets, they hardly miss a ball, so it's about keeping them in a happy space, they've played so much cricket, they have so much of workload, they'll come good, no doubt about that.
Pitch Report | Murali Kartik and Dinesh Karthik: "Day three of this Test match and this game has come a long way. 14 wickets, 15 wickets and I am pretty sure that day three is going to produce a result. New Zealand have the option of using any of the rollers or not roll it at all. If you use a heavy roller, it becomes much slower in nature. If you use a light roller, it tends to bind it up and keep it as quick as it is. But New Zealand could do the clever thing and not take a roller at all which would mean the pitch will have natural disintegration. There is the opportunity for two rolling sessions to happen - one NZ could take it and soon after, before India's batting, they have the opportunity to take the roller as well. That's a very interesting part of today's play. Let's come to something that's even more interesting, this pitch. This pitch has produced a lot of wickets, simply because of the abrasive nature of how this pitch has been in the top layer. There's a lot of dryness hence there's been a lot of turn, the odd one going straight but it's been consistent turn and that's the Mumbai pitch where there's consistent turn and a lot of bounce.
09:00 Local Time, 03:30 GMT, 09:00 IST: The highest successful run-chase in Tests at the Wankhede is 163 by South Africa back in 2000. Incidentally, that was the last time India were clean swept by an opposition in a home Test series (minimum 2 Tests). Fast forward 24 years, India may have to chase down a similar target to avoid a series whitewash.
29 wickets in the first two days's play combined - most in the first two days at this venue bettering 25 in the Test bw India & South Africa in 2000.
NZ lower order collapses this series

Pune, 2nd innings: 24/5 (231/5 - 255)
Mumbai, 1st innings: 76/7 (159/3 - 235)
Mumbai, 2nd innings: 77/6 (94/3 - 171/9)*
Ashwin: (On the catch to dismiss Mitchell) I was just telling myself that it's going to anyway leave me, I wanted to get as close to the ball as possible and and I've got great hands, so I trusted my hands to go through with it. (On employing the carrom ball) The game itself is divided into two halves. The one from the pavilion end and from the other end, it's slightly behaving differently. It's slightly flatter from the one where we are bowling from the dressing room side, the the bounce is much lesser, so I thought I will try and use it the other way. The batters are also knowing that it's easier to take me on from this side. So I wanted to give something different. (Target) Hopefully not many, we should wrap it up with one or two runs here and there. Any runs saved in this innings is going to be much more critical. It's not going to be easy, we'll have to bat really well. Expected a lot more bounce, it has been quite slow which is a surprise. It's not a typical Bombay pitch, much slower.
17:00 Local Time, 11:30 GMT, 17:00 IST: Two days of exhilarating cricket and we'll have a result tomorrow. Another day of complete entertainment for the fans on a spiteful wicket. 348 runs were scored and as many as 15 wickets fell on Day 2 of the Test. On a wicket where you couldn't really trust your defence, both set of batters went for their shots. The tone was set by Rishabh Pant who smashed the first two balls of the day to the ropes. He went on to make a 36-ball half-century, Shubman Gill held forte to top score with 90 and Washington Sundar's 38* helped India end up with a 28-run first innings lead. Akash Deep struck with the new ball, but Will Young soldiered on, he added useful runs with Conway and Mitchell, but the Indian spinners kept plugging on and were eventually rewarded. New Zealand are effectively 143 for 9 in their second innings. India will look to remove that last wicket cheaply and then chase down the target. The series has been lost, but there's a lot of pride to play for,m notwithstanding 12 crucial WTC points. We shall be back with all the action for one last time in the series tomorrow. Join us at 9:30 am for the first ball. For now, cheers and bye..
