Another glorious day at the G' welcomes the players. India once again had a full squad huddle with Gambhir doing most of the talking.
Akash Deep was sent in as nightwatchman but he didn't last till stumps as local boy Boland did what he does best at the MCG - make things happen. Pant and Jadeja saw India through in the last couple of overs. Day 3 is the moving day and Australia would like to drive home the advantage. India's first task would be to avoid the follow on which is still 111 runs away and then take it from there. The pitch is still good for batting but the big question is can the Indian batters apply themselves. We are all buckled in for another fascinating day's of cricket and live action isn't far away. Stay tuned
10:00 Local Time, 23:00 GMT, 04:30 IST -- Day 3: The 30-minute of madness before stumps yesterday has put India in a precarious position in this Test. There will be debates for days on as to who's fault it was in Jaiswal's dismissal but the main picture is India are five down and into the all rounders while still trailing by 310 runs. Australia continued their dominance in the first session of day 2 as Steve Smith notch up his 11th Test hundred against India. He and Pat Cummins added 112 runs for the 7th wicket and that took Australia past the 400-mark. Though they lost their last three wickets quickly, 474 was a daunting first innings total and it looked even bigger when Rohit and Rahul were dismissed with the score reading 51. That's when Kohli joined Jaiswal and the duo started the rebuild process. They looked fairly comfortable and didn't give Australia a sniff during their 102-run partnership. Jaiswal was the aggressor while Kohli was composed. But one moment of misjudgement or miscommunication broke the stand and that effected Kohli's concentration as well, he had left balls outside off with determination in this innings but went chasing after a Boland delivery on the cusp of stumps.
Kohli looked in a good headspace from the word-go as he was showing good judgement in leaving balls outside off and played late. Jaiswal struck a fifty and switched gears as the runs flowed for India. The 100-run stand between the duo brought the visitors right back into the contest but then the flow of the game changed. Jaiswal keenness to take on a tight single resulted him in being run-out. That perhaps played on Kohli's mind and he nicked off soon after to Boland. The nightwatchman, Akash Deep, also fell at the fag end of the day to Boland. India still trail by 310 and they still need 111 more to avoid the follow-on.
