South Africa have won the toss and have opted to bat
"Good morning from a windy Gqeberha. The drying westerly is pumping: win the toss and bat. Adrian Carter, the curator, says he took a smidgen of grass off the pitch this morning, but it's pretty much still the 8mm long it was yesterday. And if you're wondering how to say Gqeberha properly, it's a bit like fastening your seatbelt on a plane - lay the underside of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and pull the tongue down quickly until you hear a click. That's how you pronounce a Q in isiXhosa." - greets Telford Vice from the venue.
The bowlers dominated the first innings in Durban but the batters fought back in the second essay. Marco Jansen recorded career-best figures by picking 11/86 but they were also notable contributions from Stubbs and Bavuma. Sri Lanka responded well after being rolled over for 42; fifties from Chandimal and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva in the second outing ensured it was not an embarrassing defeat. South Africa have already named their XI with Ryan Rickelton and Dane Paterson coming for injured duo of Wiaan Mulder and Gerald Coetzee. Sri Lanka will be in a dilemma about their playing XI. Should they leave out Prabath Jayasuriya, who bowled well in the first Test, for an extra pacer? Or to go in with the same XI? The toss and teams should be out soon. Stay tuned..
09:00 Local Time, 07:00 GMT, 12:30 IST: The battle for the top two spots in World Test Championship table is heating up with India, Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka all in the fray. So this second Test will have interest from Down Under as well. South Africa have been on a winning spree as they have won their last four Tests and in the process jumped to the number two spot. They have three more Tests in this cycle and a couple of victories should seal their place for the WTC final. Sri Lanka themselves came into this series having won their previous three Tests but were blown away at Durban. However, they too have three games to play and destiny in their own hands. Gqeberha is playing host and Sri Lanka will have fond memories here as this is the venue where they recorded their first Test series win in South Africa back in 2019.
