Pitch Report | Mike Haysman: It has been a really good track to bat on overall. The batters have had a good time while the bowlers have had to toil hard. This is an area around the 5m mark from both sides of the stumps where the cracks are opening up but it's not a lot. There are some footmarks especially on a length for the left-handers and Maharaj can exploit that if he bowls a little bit quicker through the air. I still think the track is still absolutely fine for batting. It's a new-ball pitch.
Here's Telford Vice, our correspondent from the stadium - Another day of booming sunshine. The pitch remains stubbornly good for batting, which should add to the intrigue.
10:00 Local Time, 08:00 GMT, 13:30 IST | Day four: Pakistan showed good fight and valour yesterday to reduce the deficit down to 208 runs. Looking at the match-scenario, Pakistan are still truly playing the chasing game but at least there’s movement in the right direction. Babar and Masood batted brilliantly to stitch an opening double century stand after the visitors were asked to follow-on, having been bundled for 194. The duo showed good character and spirit and also scored runs at a brisk pace (4.42 rpo). But, Babar departing just at the stroke of stumps has given the Proteas an opening. The hosts know that Pakistan are mercurial in nature and will be eyeing to effect a collapse. Their bowlers will also be better rested now compared to yesterday when a bit of fatigue showed amongst their quicks – as they conceded a good number of extras and were a bit wayward. For Pakistan, they need to bat long and deep. It will require an immense amount of concentration and grit even though it’s still a placid surface with only the odd-ball showing tricks. Expect another riveting day of Test cricket...
