We have made a few changes to our Expert XI. Have a look at our new and improved team.
We reckoned the team winning the toss will bowl first. But both captains wanted to bat first! Interesting.
Teams:
England (Playing XI): Philip Salt, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith(w), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(c), Liam Livingstone, Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood
Afghanistan (Playing XI): Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi
Buttler: The dew came in last game. It came on to the bat nicely. We just got one change. Carse is out. Overton is in.
Afghanistan have won the toss and have opted to bat
Shahidi: We will bat first. The wicket looks good. Hopefully, it will spin in the second innings. And it might be slower as well. Sometimes the dew is coming and sometimes it is not.
Afghanistan have won the toss and have opted to bat
Time for the toss. Shahidi and Buttler want to win the toss for sure.
It is 67 m and 70 m on both sides. The average score is more than 300 in the last 5 games. The wicket is hard. There is grass covering. Should be another high scoring game. The ball will come nicely on to the bat. The bowlers will have to hit the 6 and 8m mark. You will have to keep the sticks in play. -- Pitch report.
Was a good batting track at Lahore when Australia met England.
Afghanistan have most bases covered in their bowling department but the conditions weren't favourable to them in the first game. England also were up against the conditions while defending under lights at this same venue. So, batting second has to be the norm and toss will be a huge factor. The wicket slowed down a bit as well towards the end of the first innings. The captains would keep that in mind. Might be a no brainer to win the toss and field.
13:00 Local Time, 08:00 GMT, 13:30 IST: Hello and welcome to game 8 of the Champions Trophy. It is England taking on Afghanistan. Already group A has seen elimination of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Now, the loser of this game will be eliminated as well. England scored 351 and still lost versus Australia. Afghanistan lost in a massive manner to South Africa. So, both the sides have to turn the tide and win this do or die battle. England have been fidgety for the last month or so and need to revive their fortunes. They didn't play that badly but still lost Josh Inglish played a blinder. Afghanistan need to have their match winners raising their hands now else it will be too late.
