Pitch Report: "It is cloudy. There was no forecast for rain but we have had overnight rain. There are footmarks on both sides. The deterioration is significant as we move towards the River end. There was uneven bounce, those variabilities will challenge the batters. There was a significant turn and that is a sign for captains to invest in your spinners. Ball will dominate the bat as we move ahead in the Test," reckons Daren Ganga.
Nathan Lyon - It's one of the times when the hand goes numb, but I had a good rest last night and it's better today. It was pretty challenging, hot and humid conditions, but we stuck in on a challenging wicket. King showed his intent, we lost a couple of wickets, but today is a new day. I am excited about the second dig, happy with the way the ball is coming out - they got me for a couple of sixes, but I wasn't too worried. Smith reckons I should retire hurt, but I'm going to come out, have a bat and have a bit of a crack
Anderson Phillip: First of all I want to thank God. I left my last Test match in Adelaide with an injury and thankful for being back. I didn't have much experience at that level (when he made his debut) but this time I am more prepared. Having a good bowling performance against the no. 1 team is a confidence booster. We have been bowling well, just hit our areas and see how quickly we can get the wickets.
09:30 Local Time, 13:30 GMT, 19:00 IST -- Day 3: Day 2 showed once again that the West Indies are there and thereabouts but can't really get ahead of Australia. It happened in the first Test as well where they took a small first innings lead and then allowed Australia off the hook. Yesterday too there were a couple of good partnerships involving Brandon King which promised but never really threatened the visitors. However, some lower order resistance ensured that the lead is only 33 runs and Jayden Seales' double strike with the new ball meant the hosts are still in the contest. Australia are effectively 45/2 and will look to target around 250. West Indies need to keep chipping away at the wickets and there will be help for their bowlers. The pitch has been uneven with some balls bouncing and some keeping low, there was also plenty of spin for Lyon. So if West Indies are disciplined and accurate then they can still make a match out of this. Right now the Test is tilting towards Australia but by stumps we should have a clearer picture as to where the game is heading. Live action isn't far away. Stay tuned..
Floyd Rifer | West Indies Assistant Coach: At the beginning of the day's play, we would have wanted to get to 300 and get a lead. The guys batted well, Brandon KLing was good, he had a partnership with Shai Hope and there were contributions at the back-end - useful scores from the two Joesphs and we asked the last pair to bat around 50 balls. This is a new batting line-up, John Campbell has been out of Tests for a while, some are coming back and some are new, they'll take some ptime to get used to the pace of Test cricket. He scored off bad balls (on Brandon King), had a solid defence and was solid in his defensive attributes./ This wicket will deteriorate, we will need to bowl them out cheaply and then chase the runs down.
17:31 Local Time, 21:31 GMT, 03:01 IST: Another eventful day of Test cricket comes to an end. Kraigg Brathwaite playing his 100th Test was dismissed for a duck earlier in the day as West Indies lost three wickets in the morning session. Cummins' catch to get rid of Keacy Carty was one of the highlights of the morning session. Following that, Brandon King played an impressive knock of 75, but he was strangled down the leg-side by Nathan Lyon. Apart from King, the other West Indian batters batters chipped in with handy contributions, and as a result of a collective batting effort, the hosts managed to get closer to Australia's total of 286, trailing only by 33 runs at the end of the innings. The Australian openers had a tricky little period of 35 minutes to survive, however, none of them were able to brave that period out. Konstas tried to chase a short and wide delivery against Seales and had to pay the price for it as he was bowled by a loose delivery. His partner - Khawaja didn't last long either as Seales trapped him lbw in the very next over. Lyon walked in as the nightwatcman and made sure Australia didn't lose any more wickets. We'll be back tomorrow for the live coverage of Day 3. For now, goodbye and good night..
