Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for inappropriate physical contact with England batsman Ollie Pope during the opening Test between the two sides in Hyderabad.
The incident occurred on the final day of the match, when Bumrah brushed past Pope as he was walking towards the batsman's end after completing his delivery. The England batsman didn't react to the incident at that time, but the on-field umpires spoke to Bumrah after the players exchanged words.
The ICC charged Bumrah with a Level 1 breach of Article 2.1.12 of the ICC Player Conduct Code, which relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a player". Bumrah admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, which means he has received an official reprimand and one demerit point on his disciplinary record.
This is the first time that Bumrah has been found guilty of a misconduct offence since making his international debut in 2016.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions from former players and pundits. Some have defended Bumrah, saying that he was simply trying to be aggressive and competitive, while others have criticized his actions, saying that they were unnecessary and could have escalated the situation.
It remains to be seen whether this incident will have any impact on Bumrah's relationship with Pope or the England team. The two players have played against each other on a number of occasions in the past, and there have never been any reports of any animosity between them. However, it is possible that this incident could lead to some tension between the two players in the future.
