Biography

Coming from a family of Rugby players, John Simpson is a stylish wicket-keeper batsman. Having played for Lancashire in every age group at the junior level, Simpson has also represented the England Under-19 team. Simpson made his debut for Middlesex, but got recognition in the 2011 season as he scored close to 900 runs at a staggering average of 43.

He is a quality wicket-keeper and has also played a handful of match-winning knocks for Middlesex. A century against Hampshire and another match defining knock at Taunton that helped Middlesex win the Championship title after 23 years - to name a few. Apart from Middlesex, Simpson has played for the Marylebone Cricket Club and has scored in excess of 5500 runs in his first-class career.

Simpson has a wide range of shots and is a decent batsman across all formats but having a mediocre average of 30 in first-class cricket hasn't helped his cause to take giant strides in the sport. Barring that, there are few other wicketkeepers in Middlesex who got quality skills with the bat and behind the wickets like Robbie White and Steve Eskinazi.
