Biography

A specialist slow-arm orthodox spinner and a handy batsman down the order, Tom Smith has been playing county cricket since more than a decade. He has represented Sussex, Surrey and Middlesex in the past and has been a part of Gloucestershire since 2013. In 2014, Smith claimed 32 wickets for the club and has also claimed a hat-trick against Somerset in the Yorkshire Bank 40-over competition.

Tom played an essential role for Gloucestershire when they lifted the Royal London Cup in September 2015, and his wickets included Azhar Mahmood and Gary Wilson in the final as they beat Surrey by 6 runs. Apart from these two wickets, Smith also played a useful knock and was involved in a 50-plus partnership with Geraint Jones when the side was in trouble.

Smith's bowling average in first-class is on the higher side, but when it comes to the shorter formats, he enjoys bowling. Especially in T20s, where he has picked more than 120 wickets that also include a couple of 5-wicket hauls.
