Biography

An aggressive left-handed batsman, Sharjeel Khan, born in Hyderabad, Pakistan, is also a part-time leg-break bowler. He made his first-class debut for Hyderabad against Islamabad in 2009. Although he did not have a great start to his domestic career, his performances improved over time and he ended up with over 800 runs in that season.

Sharjeel was eventually noticed, earning him his ODI and T20 caps in 2013. In his debut One Day International (ODI) game against Sri Lanka, Sharjeel played a brilliant knock of 61 at Sharjah as an opener. However, in games that followed and in the 2014 Asia Cup, he was not able to recreate his magic and was unable to convert decent starts into big scores.

After an absence of around 2 years, Sharjeel came back with a bang by scoring 152 against Ireland in August 2016 in an ODI. His exploits in ODIs continued with a string of double digit scores but a constant failure to convert them into triple digit ones. Before being provisionally suspended on charges of corruption in the PSL, Khan had struck three consecutive fifties in Australia against the home team. He was also handed his maiden Test cap on the same tour but fate had a bitter route for the young man. A T20 specialist, his chances of forging a comeback looks bleak because of the controversy.
