From an engineer to a content developer to a professional cricketer, V Koushik - the new bowling star of Karnakata cricket journey is a prime example for all aspiring cricketers that passion and hard work can take you places. Koushik is neither muscular nor heavily-built - the two attributes required for fast-bowling. He doesn't rely on pace or doesn't have a threatening bouncer either. His USP is accuracy and getting the ball to move both ways.
A KPL product, Koushik picked up 8 wickets in 6 matches in the 2018 edition of the tournament but finished with an economy rate of 4.67 - the second-best in the league. That stat drew the attention of Karnataka's selectors, who rewarded him by drafting him into the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament. Koushik was one of the unsung heroes in Karnataka's road to the title triumph, claiming 17 scalps in 10 matches. With Vinay Kumar's departure to the Puducherry and Prasidh Ronit More's patchy form saw Koushik getting a handful of games in 2019/20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The pacer didn't disappoint whenever Manish Pandey - Karnataka's skipper - threw the ball to him. He provided crucial early breakthroughs for his team and also excelled at the death picking up 12 wickets in 6 matches with an economy of 3.8. Koushik grabbed 2/39 in the final and was instrumental in Karnataka pocketing the title.
