Biography
A mankading incident at the Under-19 World Cup shook the cricketing world. The experts had divided opinions. Social media was abuzz with a name - Keemo Paul. The Guyanese teenager though by mankading a Zimbabwean batsman ensured Windies won that game and made it to the quarter-finals.
The Caribbean unit rampaged along and eventually won their first under-19 World Cup. The teenaged all-rounder picked up 7 wickets and scored 166 runs, which included the winning hit as well.
Logically, he got the world to talk more about him. But his skill-set were also a factor that had the world noticing him. A product of the Guyanese age group cricket, Keemo is inspired by state-mate Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Keemo Paul rightly so got to debut for the senior side in ODIs and T20Is. Not originally picked for the World Cup qualifiers in 2018, Paul came in as a replacement for Sheldon Cottrell.
The infamous mankading incident was still at the back of the mind of Zimbabwe cricket fans when Keemo Paul took field against Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifier. They booed him whenever he came into the bowling attack. Keemo has been in and out of the Windies team since he made his debut. He has been identified as one of talented fast-bowler around but soon needs to convert his potential into consistent performance to become a regular feature in the Test as well as ODI team.
