Biography

Like many South Africans, Nadine de Klerk had a tough choice to make on which sport to pick. Although passionate, she gave up her javelin career at the age of 17 when she was picked for South Africa's World Cup squad in 2017. De Klerk is a genuine all-rounder - a medium-pacer who bowls the heavy ball with plenty of variations up her sleeve and a power-hitting batter in the middle-order. And, not to ignore her fielding skills, thanks to her athleticism.

A lion-hearted cricketer, de Klerk showed her mettle in the semi-final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, 2020. Slotted into the XI as an injury replacement, she picked three key Australian wickets in the big match and finished with impressive figures of 3/19. She was the only South African to make it to the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year in 2023 as she picked 16 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 16.68 and scored 181 runs at a batting average of 45.25. She was a key member of the South African side in the 2024 T20 World Cup who fell short in the final.

De Klerk has played three seasons of the Women's Big Bash League for Brisbane Heat being a regular in their XI. She played just two matches for Oval Invincibles in the Hundred Competition and notched up a fifty in one of those outings. She was roped in by Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a replacement for Heather Knight in WPL 2024. She played just one match and was released by the franchise, following which she was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 30 lakh in the 2025 WPL auction.
