England won the toss, made the call to bat, but the Indian bowlers ran in and bowled tight to force false shots. England were tottering at 61/6 at one stage, but it took a gutsy effort from James Rew to both counterattack and anchor the innings coming in at 4. He shared a 93-run stand with Sales but was cruelly dismissed five short of a deserved hundred. But Raj Bawa went on to record the best ever bowling figures in an U19 WC final (5/31), while Ravi Kumar started the show with the bang and finished with 4/34. It wasn't spin that did England in, but it was India's pace duo that shared 9 wickets to bowl England out for the first time in the tournament.

Ravi Kumar: Coaches kept telling me to do the basics and not worry about the results. The plan was to maintain tight line and length. The ball was sticking a bit and wanted to bowl full to get some movement. My favourite wicket today was the first wicket of the game (Bethell).

Rasheed: Feeling great. Don't have words. Just wanted to rotate singles. Wanted to play my normal game.

VVS Laxman: Firstly, huge congratulations to the selection committee, because it was a new selection committee and it was quite challenging for them to identify this group and after that I think it's the coaching staff with Hrishikesh as the head coach, Sairaj Munish Bali and all the support staff. The way they brought this group together, they worked really hard and won the Asia Cup and the preparation to this World Cup was fantastic. In the middle of the tournament we all know what happened to the boys, to test positive but to show that kind of resilience and positive attitude is exemplary. I think BCCI has to be complemented, the number of tournaments each age group players get to play, but unfortunately over the last two years because of Covid they didn't play any tournament and that's why this win is very special. It is just a learning process and everyone understands that in the group, Exciting times for all of them.

Kanitkar, India coach: We were looking to bat first as well. But there was some moisture so we thought to make use of that. He has a good head on his shoulders (Dhull). It's a fabulous competition getting this stage to perform, to showcase talent.

16:05 Local Time, 20:05 GMT, 01:35 IST: 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and now 2022 - the five Under-19 World Cups that India have won and no other team has won this more than thrice. The youthful energy is on show out there. Sure coach Kanitkar is not stopping them. The Indian camp is all smiles. Credit to England for pushing India deep. They only had 190 to play with but bowled good areas to keep the pressure on. They got the Angkrish first ball of their defence, but Shaik Rasheed and Harnoor Singh steadied the ship. Rasheed was struggling with cramps a couple of times, but he managed to bat through and recorded back-to-back fifties. Sales got England back by getting Rasheed and Yash Dhull in the space of three balls. Two left-handers Nishant and Raj Bawa combined so well to stitch 67-run stand that deflated England. But Prest and Co, again hit back two quick wickets. Dinesh Bana said enough is enough, I'm closing the deal and won the World Cup with two sixes.

James Sales to Dinesh Bana, SIX, full toss, lofted all the way. India are World Champions again. The entire Indian team is running out to celebrate their fifth Under-19 World Cup win. They grab the stumps, the flag and huddle in front of the camera. Agony for England and they congratulate each other
