Los Angeles Knight Riders (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Sunil Narine(c), Unmukt Chand(w), David Miller, Nitish Kumar, Saif Badar, Andre Russell, Corne Dry, Spencer Johnson, Ali Khan, Joshua Little
MI New York have won the toss and have opted to field
18:30Local Time, 23:30 GMT, 05:00 IST: Last group-stage game for both these teams and it’s a virtual knockout fixture. Incredibly, with just 1 win to their name so far, MINY still have a fair shot at making it to the playoffs. For that, they need to win and do so by either 10 runs or chase down the total set inside 18 overs. The Knight Riders have their own sights set on the playoffs and for them it’s a lot simpler - win and they’re through. A washout, something that’s unfortunately not out of the cards given the forecast, will also see the Knight Riders make it through. The odds and weather might be stacked against MINY and they’ll hope that it’ll bring out the best in them. With a bit of luck, they might just sneak through. All that action is coming soon. Stick around.
Preview
A blockbuster MLC Sunday, with all to play for, is on the cards.
But...
The two high-profile and star-studded teams who are set to take the field in Dallas' Grand Prairie Stadium have been far from their potential best in the recent few weeks.
It may have been more than two weeks since MI New York last experienced the high of a victory, but despite having endured five games without registering a win, they somehow find themselves still in with a chance of qualifying for the playoffs heading into their last league game against Los Angeles Knight Riders.
Knight Riders' campaign was witnessing a similar trajectory, but their winless run came to a halt in their previous encounter, when Unmukt Chand's blazing half-century helped them over the line in the last over against Seattle Orcas. But still much like the defending champions, much has been left wanting from the star-studded Knight Riders.
The equation is simple. Knight Riders can win and qualify. For MI to qualify for the playoffs, there is a caveat even if they win their last league game. If MINY post 200 runs, they will have to win by a margin of 10 runs, and in case they are chasing a similar total, they have to do it in 18 overs.
All the calculations, however, will be pointless for MINY if the predicted rain showers have the final say.
When: Sunday, July 21, 2024, 7:30 PM Local (July 22, 6:00 AM IST)
Where: Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas
What to expect: Teams batting first have had a minor advantage in recent games at the venue where totals have ranged around 150-170. However, a few explosive innings have proved that 200 is not of reach. However, with rain expected to play a part, teams might prefer to chase.
Team News:
