We've got the playoffs coming up from the 25th, but we do have two more matches to go. The two table-toppers will be up against each other in their last league match tomorrow. Nothing riding on that game, but the winner will take confidence going into another clash between the same two teams in Qualifier 1. Do join us for tomorrow's game, for now, cheers and bye..
Kieron Pollard - Very relieved, congrats to the entire team. The way we fought, everyone chipped in usefully. If we look at the history of how we've batted, 130 was a tough ask. But we got another opportunity, the attitude shown by everyone was fantastic. I've had some experience, Nosthush came to me after one game and said that things will turn out good, my family was always backing me, coming from a young player, it meant a lot. I always pride myself on performing for the franchise and I'm glad it came off today. It was a plan that worked out in the end (on bowling the 20th over), I could've gone for 20 and they could have got past 150. I could have gone for the young guy (Rushil Ugarkar), but it was one of the days when we got what we wanted. I heard that one of the supporters in the crowd got hit, I hope she's OK and I hope we can do something for her on our part to make her happy.
Sunil Narine - I think the score, it was difficult to defend it against such a batting line-up, Pooran batted well and Polly finished off the game. But I'm proud about how we played and bowled in trying to defend the score. I didn't get the runs myself at the top of the order, we didn't get a lot of runs from the top-order, but it was a good tournament for us, the vibes were great and we came very close to qualifying. It sometimes doesn't happen, all the bowlers tried, we were going for wickets, at such times, the runs will come (on the over where Pollard hit three sixes). That over didn't work out well for us - I just hope that the supporters will keep backing us, we gave our 100%, but it didn't happen. Everyone, from the international core to the locals tried hard and gave their best, that's all one can ask for.
Rashid Khan, Most Valuable Player - It was much-needed for us, pleased with the win, in the middle overs, my role is to take wickets and put the pressure on the opposition, happy to have done my part, It was all about line and length, you need to know the areas and the shorter boundaries, I was consistently hitting the right areas and used the wrong 'un well. I had that in my mind, bowled a few quicker ones, he played nicely with a straight bat. That ball, I bowled from behind the umpire, pitched in line and beat the batter, everything was in my mind and I'm happy that it went well. This game will hopefully give us the momentum, this should help us in the upcoming games going forward.
Nicholas Pooran: We’ve been in the same situation last year. Everyone put their hands up and came together to believe. Winning the toss was also crucial. The bowlers did their job. I tried to be responsible, think they bowled pretty well to me. Was important to be around. Unfortunately didn’t get to finish the game. My job is to keep him (Narine) out of the game as much as possible. He (Pollard) played that finishing role today, probably does it better than anyone else. I’m not surprised, his back was against the wall, to see him perform was great.
23:01 Local Time, 04:01 GMT, 09:31 IST: MINY kept it late, but they've completed the playoffs line-up with a comfortable victory over the Knight Riders, who have been eliminated on net run-rate. The win was secured by the bowlers after they kept their opponents down to 130. Dewald Brevis gave them a start, Nic Pooran anchored most of the chase before Kieron Pollard reminded everyone of his power - three back-to-back sixes off Spencer Johnson killing the game. On their part, the Knight Riders kept plugging away with the ball, but they'd been left with very little to defend from their batters. MINY will now face the Texas Super Kings in what should be a mouthwatering Eliminator clash.
