On that note, time to draw the curtains on another exciting summer from Down Under. A season where plenty of new talents were discovered, while the old heads showed their prowess once again. But as they say in modern cricket, when the door to one franchise cricket tournament closes, the door to another franchise cricket tournament opens. There’s plenty to keep cricket fans excited in the coming few months with ILT20, SA20, PSL and the Bangladesh Premier League. We’ll continue to serve you cricket’s best, but for now this is Kumar Abhisekh Das signing off on behalf of Saurabh Shankar and AV Venkatesh.
Barring Josh Brown, Brisbane Heat didn’t have a single batter in the top 15 run getters. However, they finish with the top two wicket-takers in the competition, and Paul Walter hasn’t been too far behind too. It is true when they say ‘bowlers win you tournaments, batters win you matches.'
Nathan McSweeney, winning skipper, Brisbane Heat: Fantastic feeling. Feels really good. Congrats to the Sixers. Congrats on a fantastic career. Unfortunately, we were at the wrong end of it. Thanks to Munro, Billings, Khawaja and Labuschagne. They weren't here. But they did all they could. The Sydney crowd as superb as well.
Daniel Hughes, Sydney Sixers: Unfortunately our skipper isn't up here. He has led us outstandingly well. We love the support of our crowd. Thanks again. Well done to the Heat boys. What can I say lads. We had an awesome year. We just couldn't get over the line. I have enjoyed playing with O Keefe. Wonderful team mate and person. We will continue having you around. Congrats on a great career.
Spencer Johnson, Player of the Final: Pretty special. We wanted to make amends after last year. Nice to contribute. Credit to the Sixers. They have been awesome. Credit to the bowlers and batters. Brisbane Heat has changed my life!
Matt Kuhnemann: I'm speechless. so happy for the boys, it is the best feeling ever.
Peirson: It is my first final win after more than a 100 club games, so proud of this bunch. This has had its ups and downs, the group has certainly picked me up at times and so happy to be part of this team.
Michael Neser: Was a reflex thing. Was running hard at the boundary. Then found I was in the periphery of the fence. and lobbed it away. We put in a lot of hard work. We thought long and hard where we missed out. Happy to be rewarded.
Mitch Swepson: Long time coming, so proud of this group. It has been a lot of hard work across these last two years. So happy with this performance.
Brisbane are champions of BBL 2023/24. The Sydney Sixers felt the heat in this final as it proved to be a no contest. The table toppers after the league stage claim a comprehensive final played on away turf. Batting first, Brisbane Heat got a fifty from Josh Brown, along with valuable contributions from Renshaw and McSweeney to finish with 166 runs. In the chase, the Sixers lost Daniel Hughes in the first over, and then Jack Edwards got knocked over by Spencer Johnson. Sixers skipper Moises Henriques and Philippe stitched a decent partnership, but the innings nosedived after they were both dismissed. Spencer Johnson returned to pick two more wickets as the middle order contributed close to nothing. Xavier Bartlett finished the chapter with two wickets in his second over, with Steve OKeefe the last to fall on his final BBL game. A comprehensive 54 run win for Brisbane Heat. Stick around for the presentations.

Bartlett to Abbott, out Caught by Walter!! Has Neser managed to take it? Or should I say hand it over to Walter in time? Neser seems to have managed to keep his left hand inside the circle and then flip it to the man at long-on. That was a length delivery, Abbott got under it and Abbott c Walter b Bartlett 16(11) [4s-1 6s-1]
