Wiaan Mulder: When I started playing for SA, I was nowhere near good enough. They gave me a lot of opportunities to learn from retired players, really polish and improve my game. Going to England helped me understand technical things in my game, and helped me understand what kind of cricketer I want to be. The head coach of Zimbabwe Justin Simmons helped massively in my development, he helped in my game against the short ball. (On the thoughts overnight) What’s going on between your ears is most important, and there were a lot of thoughts that I had. There was so much negative after I got bowled off the no ball last night. There were a lot of positives as well, I wanted to just stay positive. Just keep the focus on my shoes and keep singing songs in my head. Today at breakfast somebody mentioned that 277 is the highest score by a debutant captain, so that was the first hurdle. I got past Hash’s score and only then realised that I had got to 312. (On the song he was singing in his head) It was an Afrikaans song earlier when I was playing in Bangladesh, and today it was Zombie by Cranberries. (On why SA chose to retire) Firstly, I thought we had enough and we needed to bowl. Secondly, Brian Lara is a legend. For someone of that stature to keep that record is deserved. If I get the chance to do it again, I’d do it exactly the same way. I spoke to Shuks (Shukri Conrad) and he felt the same way. Brian Lara is a legend and he deserves to keep that record.
17:25 Local Time, 15:25 GMT, 20:55 IST: That will stumps, bad light again and they call the day off five minutes early again.
