Beth Mooney: It was a bit of a 50-50 call, it’s a new wicket and we don’t mind having a look at it first with the bat. The preperation has been great, we have got some exciting prospects and hopefully we can put our best foot forward. Phoebe Litchfield, Lea Tahuhu, and Kathryn Bryce all make their debut as overseas players today. Unfortunately, Laura Wolvaardt misses out, we've got Veda Krishnamurthy opening with me and Meghna Singh bowling as well. So, it'll be a great line-up.
Harmanpreet Kaur: We are gonna bowl first. Dew is a factor here so that is the reason we wanted to bowl first. In the last game, we gave away too many runs and we have to be more disciplined today. We are going in with the same team
Mumbai Indians Women have won the toss and have opted to field
Pitch Report | Anjum Chopra: It’s a fresh pitch tonight and that changes the dimensions - 57m square boundary to one side, 52m to the other. Longest pocket is 67-68m. There’s a nice covering of grass on the surface but underneath it’s dry. It can pose a challenge to the batters whether to go full throttle or be watchful. Overall, it looks like a decent surface. The grass covering is patchy and that could lead to some variable bounce.
Our correspondent, Purnima Malhotra, pings from the venue: Hello from MCS! Four debutants in Gujarat Giants, Veda Krishnamurthy, being one of them
18:30 Local Time, 13:00 GMT, 18:30 IST: Hello and a warm welcome to our live coverage of the third contest of the tournament! The season 2 of WPL has kicked off in style with two matches going down to nail-biting last-ball finishes. Mumbai Indians Women, the defending champions, won their campaign opener as Sajana hit a last-ball six. Yesterday, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women were pushed on the back foot by UP Warriorz but held their nerves with the ball to win by a 2-run margin. Sobhana Asha emerged as the star of the show as she stole the limelight with a 5-wicket haul. The defending champions are back in action and they will square off against Gujarat Giants who will begin their campaign tonight. The Giants only managed to win a couple of games in their opening season and finished at the rock bottom of the table. Can they turn things around this season? Only time will tell. The Chinnaswamy Stadium will be buzzing once again! Let's hope another nail-biting thriller is on the cards! Stick around for the toss and team lineups...
